Indonesia -- Day 13 Ubud Market, Bali

Ubud Market, Bali

The Ubud market is Jalan Raya and Jalan Monkey Forest.  The market opens early and it is the best time for bargaining.

Look at the basket this woman is carrying on her head.

The market has every kind of souvenier you could want of Bali.  Most market dealers are very superstitious.   Usually the first customer of the day will "foretell" their sales fortune for the day.

Bartering is almost mandatory.  If you are shy you may not get the best deal.  Always be polite and firm when bartering.  If you are unsure of how low to go, price out the item you want at a couple of stalls and then purchase for at least 1/2 or even a 1/3 of the lowest price you were quoted.
